After the death of his wife Sofia, DCI Joe Mottram takes a sabbatical, hoping to reconnect with his daughter, Angelica. Sofia’s parents, Gennaro and Elena Da Vinale, run a popular seaside restaurant on the island of Capri, and welcome them with open arms, although they’re horrified to learn Joe can’t cook. Detective work is the last thing on Joe’s mind, but when a British businesswoman is found dead at the foot of a notorious cliff he’s asked to act as a liaison between the Italian police and the father of the deceased and is drawn into the investigation led by a young female Inspector, Lara Sarrancino. As they butt heads and the investigation founders, it appears Joe's suspicions will remain unproven, until the body of a second woman is discovered. Unfortunately for Joe, the evidence trail leads back to someone who works at his in-laws' restaurant. As he throws his energies into uncovering the truth, cracks start to appear in the perfect veneer of Gennaro and Elena’s life on the island and he realises they’ve been hiding their own secrets. Angelica begins to fall for a local youth, Daniele, but it quickly becomes apparent that, like everything else in this idyllic place, he’s not as perfect as he seems.
